Hampton Court (1871 engraving) - stock illustration
Hampton Court, in Surrey and now in Greater London, is one of the most famous royal palaces. It was built by Cardinal Wolsey c1514 but when he realised that his influence with King Henry VIII was waning, he handed it over to the king, who enlarged and improved it. Over the following centuries much more work was done on the palace by various monarchs. Engraving from "Collins' Illustrated Guide to London and Neighbourhood", price one shilling; published by William Collins, Sons & Company, London, in 1871.
