Pulling boats through the Second Cataract of the Nile during the Gordon Relief Expedition - an expedition in 1884 to 1885, under Garnet Wolseley, to the Sudan to rescue Governor-General Charles George Gordon from the Mahdi rebellion. She arrived in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum two days late to prevent the Mahdists from storming the city and killing Gordon. Wood engraving, published in 1885.
