First undersea transatlantic telegraph cable from Valentia Island in 1857 - stock illustration
Laying of the first undersea transatlantic telegraph cable from Valentia Island (Ireland). It was the eastern terminus of the first transatlantic cable, which was first relocated in 1857, reorganized in 1866 and then used until 1966. The connection ran between Valentia Island and Trinity Bay in Newfoundland. Collotype after a drawing by Albert Krüger (German painter, 1858 - after 1910), published in 1885.
