Family posing for a Daguerrotype - and the result - stock illustration
"Cartoon depicting a family posing for a Daguerrotype, taken aEby a friend of the familyaa, with the resulting image. All the expressions on the faces are quite different! Daguerrotypes were the earliest photographs and were extremely popular. They were, however, very fragile and easily damaged. They also required long exposure periods, so a group of people could be in position for ten minutes - which would account for the sour expressions on the result! From Punchaas Almanack of 1855. Punch was a British magazine newspaper founded in 1841, famous for its humorous and satirical cartoons which were created by some of the foremost illustrators of the day: the Almanack was a supplement."
