Historical view of the Cliff House - a building perched on the headland above the cliffs just north of Ocean Beach, in the Outer Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco, California. For most of the Cliff House's history, since 1863, the building's main draw has been restaurants and bars where patrons could enjoy the Pacific Ocean views. Not far from the Cliff House are the Seal Rocks - a group of small rock formation islands. They are located just offshore in the Pacific Ocean, at the north end of the Ocean Beach. The name is derived from the population of Steller's sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) and California sea lions (Zalophus californianus), who haul out on the rock.
