Antique illustration of the cloister of the abbey of Saint Gregory in Venice (engraving by Méaule from the watercolor by Nathaniel de Rotschild, exposed at the Salon 1876 in Paris). Saint Gregory (San Gregorio in Italian) is a former church belonging to a Benedictine abbey in Dorsoduro (neighborhood in Venice), now not in use anymore. The building, rebuilt at the end of 18th century, is in Neo-Gothic style. In this engraving the cloister of the monastery with the colonnade. Some artillery (from the Napoleon Italian campaign ?) and a flourishing vegetation may indicate that the drawing had been realised after the Napoleonic occupation and the consequent suppression of the church.
