Alex Morgan Statue Placed In New York City As World Cup Gets Underway
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 20: USA World Cup banners wave near a statue of USWNT player Alex Morgan stands in Fox Square on July 20, 2023 in New York City. As the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup gets under way, an 825-pound statue of soccer legend Morgan wearing her U.S. uniform and holding a World Cup trophy was erected in Fox Square as it makes its rounds on a national tour. The statue, made of reinforced and hard coated foam and 3D-printed resin for the head and trophy, was erected in honor of Morgan and her impact on the USWNT by Fox Sports, and to promote the network’s coverage of the World Cup beginning for the U.S. team on July 22nd against Vietnam.
