Baby Caiman Stuns Zookeepers By Hatching A Month Early In Zurich, Switzerland
This footage was filmed and produced 28 June 2023.
Baby broad-snouted caiman surprises zookeepers by hatching early at Zurich Zoo, Switzerland.
The 20cm-long and 150g-heavy croc emerged weeks ahead of schedule from its mother's mound nest. Keepers were fooled by the mother's continued digging and miscalculated the birth date. The caiman's sex will be determined by the temperature of the nest.
This is the first offspring of a 13-year-old caiman pair. Broad-snouted caimans are native to South America and are listed as a protected species due to various threats
