ISTANBUL, TURKEY - AUGUST 10: The first white lion cub born in Turkey was showed off at an event held at the Aslan Park in Istanbul’s Tuzla district on 10 August World Lion Day. During the event, the African lions and white lions under protection at the park were given meat in watermelon peels. Meanwhile, the 45-day-old cub of Arya and Hades, Turkey's first and only white lion couple, was introduced to the press. Tuzla Aslan Park’ Veterinarian Yucel Yilmaz said that they are very happy to have one of the very few white lions left in the world and that there are 100 white lions in zoos and 30 in nature. “We are very happy to be able to look after and raise the young of a rare species and bring it in nature,” said Yilmaz. The adorable cub cared in the Yucel house shortly after it was born, as its mother rejected it. The baby lion has not been given a name yet, its name will be determined by the votes of social media users in a campaign to be launched soon. According to the WWF, lions were once found throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe but their numbers have dwindled over the years in these continents.
