Funeral Takes Place Of Former Labour Minister and Peer Lord Prescott
HULL, ENGLAND - JANUARY 30: The cortege carries the coffin of former Labour minister and peer Lord John Prescott arriving for his funeral service at Hull Minster on January 30, 2025 in Hull, England. John Leslie Prescott, Lord Prescott was born on 31 May 1938 in Prestatyn, Wales and died 20 November 2024 aged 86. He spent his early career working as a steward on cruise liners and joined the National Union of Seamen. Through the Union, he received a sponsored place at Ruskin College, Oxford and went on to study politics and economics. In the 1970 general election, he won the seat of Kingston Upon Hull for Labour and represented the constituency for 40 years in Parliament until he was elevated to the House of Lords with a life peerage in 2010. He served as Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State in Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's government. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, and two sons.
