Senator Blackburn recounts late FedEx founder's military past after death
Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn says in remarks on late FedEx founder Fred Smith that before founding Smith served for four years in the US Marine Corps including two tours in Vietnam where he was decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts, but for Fred the greatest honor was serving alongside his troops as a company commander, and in an interview last year Frederick recounted a time when the men in his company dug his foxhole for him so that he could get more rest because they were as tired or more tired but they took their energy to take care of him, which was one of the best things that ever happened to him because it told him they cared for him and appreciated his leadership.
