MLK Day Dedication
U.S. Senator Charles Mathias (R-MD) thanks U.S. Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, recalls the first time he met with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Alabama; he discusses what it would be like if MLK were alive today, saying “we have overcome.” U.S. Senator Bob Dole (R-KS) takes podium, says he is very proud to have worked with Senators Kennedy and Mathias on this bill, commends Republican party for working on the bill and showing they are aware of mainstream concerns; Dole mentions Senator Howard Baker, thanks Mrs. King. Senator Ted Kennedy jokes about GOP support for the MLK Day bill, saying he hopes Democrats get the same support on housing, economics, and social justice.
